Job sites follow OSHA. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 requires 1 unit for up to 20 workers, then 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers from 20 to 199 workers, and 1 per 50 workers at 200 or more. Hand washing has to be available where the work involves contaminants.
On a Elkhart job site the OSHA table is a floor rather than a target. Most contractors order one unit per 10 workers, because that is the ratio that keeps a unit usable across a week of standard servicing.
Servicing is the other difference. A Elkhart job site on weekly service gets the tank pumped, the unit cleaned and the paper restocked once a week, which suits a crew of up to about 10 per unit.
How should units be placed in Elkhart?
Wind matters more than people expect. On exposed Elkhart sites, units should be staked or strapped, particularly if they sit on a hard surface where they cannot be anchored into ground.
A standard unit occupies roughly 4 by 4 feet with the door opening outward, so allow about 5 by 5 feet of clear space. The service truck needs to get within about 25 feet of each unit.
Hand washing is a separate provision from the restroom itself. Where Elkhart crews handle contaminants, a station with soap and running water is what the rule requires.
Where food is served at a Elkhart event, move to one hand wash station per two units rather than one per three or four.
